Knifedge has been instrumental in helping the St Bride Foundation reconsolidate and focus its brand, to reflect its new aims and approach since 2004. This has included updating its name as well as an array of cross-media strategic and consulting services.
In 2004, the Foundation’s Governors reacquired direct management of both the St Bride Printing Library and the Bridewell Theatre, each of which always lived within the Foundation’s walls but had been previously managed by others. This produced a need to transform the way in which the organization represented itself and communicated this newly diverse offering.
Since 2005, Knifedge has advised the Foundation on its communication strategy, starting with the recommendation that ‘The St Bride Foundation’ would be a more effective name than ‘The St Bride Foundation Institute’. The project included a brand consolidation to make sense of an organisation which contains not only meeting, exhibition and rehearsal space for the local community, but also houses one of London’s key fringe venues and one of the most significant collections of typography and historical printed reference in the world – the St Bride Printing Library.
Following the launch of the new website and brochure, the Conference and Events team at the St Bride Foundation saw a solid upturn in business, with more and new users contacting them and booking space – this activity allows the organization to support the rest of its charitable activities.
The content managed online marketing tool, which Knifedge provided for the Bridewell Theatre, has helped the stabilisation of the theatre business as well as a more streamlined in-house work flow.
Working closely with the Friends of the St Bride Library, we were able to connect the existing Library website to the rest of the brand, thus uniting the organisation into one coherent endeavour as it continues its process of reinvention and reconsolidation.
'We wanted to work with Knifedge because of the clear passion for typography and letterform that Tim and the Knifedge team have, and their ability to provide a full multimedia design solution. Tim's passion and understanding for both the theatre and printing world enabled him to understand our needs and communicate our ideas clearly. He took a key position in the discussion to develop our identity, driving the project forward without being the leader (at least he let me think that I was the leader!).'
