Heart n Soul is a leading arts organisation that started in 1986. It uses original work to touch and change people's lives by giving a voice to learning disability culture.
Knifedge and Heart n Soul collaborated over the Valuing People project and created a communication piece to open up the debate on learning disability within our community. Films and interviews with Heart n Soul artists, musicians and staff (most of whom possess learning disabilities themselves), along with Heart n Soul's creative work, were woven into an interactive DVD.
Heart n Soul is a band as well as a registered charity, so the project featured a music video taking the story on a road trip. British road signage was used in part as a navigation device, but also to provide a directional metaphor familiar to us all, to signify progress and traveling to a more positive future.
This DVD was used to create awareness about learning disability in general but also to celebrate the achievements of Heart n Soul across the last 20 plus years in empowering and enabling people to understand their value and fulfill their potential.
Valuing People was presented with the IVCA Clarion Award for excellence in the communication of social inclusion.
