Heliosphere Fairy Dancers

Two Christmas idents for a channel with an international, multi-cultural audience.

BBC Entertainment, part of BBC Worldwide, commissioned two new Christmas idents from Knifedge. Designed to introduce the channel’s festive season of award-winning drama and light entertainment to an international audience, the project featured Heliosphere ‘fairy’ dancers floating above lakes against a backdrop of Northern Lights and fireworks, sprinkling festive sparkles. These created a suitably festive feel whilst remaining non-denominational, ensuring maximum relevance and appeal for BBC Entertainment’s diverse audiences.

Directed by Timothy Bird, the sequences were entirely produced and created in-house at Knifedge, using a combination of Shake, After Effects and DS Nitris. Working in collaboration with Dream Engine and their Creative Director, Steve Edgar, who supplied the Heliospheres and dancers, Knifedge produced two seqences, one suitable for light entertainment and comedy and a second darker sequence more appropriate for serious drama.
