With over 20 years experience of the media industry Matthew is well suited to our diverse range of projects, from developing Glyndebourne Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s own in-house record labels, to managing the animation content for Neal Street Productions’ film Stuart a Life Backwards for BBC and HBO.
Matthew’s career started with CBS Records in 1987. He went on to be Sony Music Australia’s classical music man for some years, based in Sydney, before nurturing ABC Classics, a small independent Australian classical label. In 1996, he was appointed A&R Director at Naxos, first in Hong Kong then Auckland and in 1997 established Naxos’ UK office. In 2001 he established the Media Division of Music Sales Ltd., in London publishing leading film and television composers including Michael Nyman, Howard Blake (general management), Jocelyn Pook, John Harle, Joby Talbot and James Whitbourn.
Knifedge’s other music clients under Matthew’s management include Canary Classics, violinist Gil Shaham’s own label and ABC Classics, the latter allowing him to work with notable antipodean artists with a strong presence in the UK and Europe: soprano Yvonne Kenny, baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, cellist Li-wei and guitarist Slava Grigoryan.
